About the blood group test

Blood grouping identifies which of the four ABO types you are — A, B, AB or O — and whether you are Rh positive or negative. It is a one-time test for most people, but it is required surprisingly often: before any surgery, at the first antenatal visit, for blood donation, for passports and job files, and for school and college admission records. Rh typing matters especially in pregnancy — an Rh-negative mother carrying an Rh-positive baby needs anti-D prophylaxis, and identifying that early is one of the simplest, highest-value things antenatal testing does.

How we collect your Blood Group sample at home

Your sample is drawn by a registered nurse or trained phlebotomist — not a courier — which is why we can safely handle elderly, bedridden, difficult-vein, paediatric and post-surgical patients that most collection services struggle with.

  1. 1

    Call or WhatsApp us

Tell us the test name, or just describe the symptom or send a photo of the doctor's prescription. We confirm the test, the fasting requirement and the price on the same call.

  2. 2

Nurse reaches you in 60–90 minutes

a registered nurse or trained phlebotomist arrives at your home with sterile, single-use vacutainers, a fresh needle opened in front of you, and proper cold-chain transport boxes.

  3. 3

Sample goes straight to the lab

Every sample we collect is transported under correct temperature and handling conditions and processed at our NABL-accredited partner laboratory in Bangalore.

  4. 4

    Report on WhatsApp and email

Most routine tests are reported in 8–10 hours. Specialised tests and cultures take longer — we tell you the exact turnaround before we collect, never after.

Frequently asked about the blood group test

Do I need fasting for a blood group test?

No. Blood grouping needs no fasting and no preparation at all. It can be collected at any time of day, and takes under two minutes.

Can a blood group change over a lifetime?

No — your ABO and Rh type is genetically fixed and stays the same for life. The only rare exceptions involve bone-marrow transplantation. If a new report contradicts an older one, it almost always means one of the two was a clerical or sample-labelling error, and the test should be repeated. That is one reason we label every vacutainer in front of the patient before leaving the house.

Why does Rh negative matter in pregnancy?

If the mother is Rh negative and the baby is Rh positive, the mother's immune system can produce antibodies against the baby's red cells — a problem that typically affects a second or later pregnancy rather than the first. This is entirely preventable with an anti-D injection given at the right time, which is why Rh typing is done at the very first antenatal visit. Discuss your result with your obstetrician.
