About the lipid profile test

A lipid profile measures the fats circulating in your blood and is the foundation of cardiac risk assessment. It reports total cholesterol, LDL (the fraction that deposits in artery walls), HDL (the fraction that clears it away), and triglycerides. South Asians develop coronary artery disease around a decade earlier than Western populations and often at lower BMI, which is why Indian physicians screen from age 30 rather than waiting for symptoms. The test traditionally needs a 9–12 hour fast, which makes home collection genuinely practical — the sample is drawn in your own kitchen at 7am and you have breakfast immediately afterwards.

What the Lipid Profile test measures

Total cholesterol
LDL cholesterol — the 'bad' fraction that narrows arteries
HDL cholesterol — the protective fraction
VLDL cholesterol
Triglycerides
Total cholesterol / HDL ratio — the cardiac risk index

Who usually needs a Lipid Profile test

  • Adults over 30 — baseline cardiac risk screening
  • Family history of heart attack, stroke or high cholesterol
  • Diabetics and hypertensives — at least annually
  • Anyone on statins — to monitor response to treatment
  • Overweight, sedentary or high-stress lifestyle
  • Smokers and heavy alcohol users
  • Post-cardiac-event patients under cardiologist follow-up
  • PCOS and thyroid patients with metabolic changes

Preparation: fasting required

9–12 hours of fasting is standard, mainly because triglycerides rise sharply after a meal. Water is allowed. Avoid alcohol for 24 hours before, as it distorts triglyceride readings substantially.

How we collect your Lipid Profile sample at home

Your sample is drawn by a registered nurse or trained phlebotomist — not a courier — which is why we can safely handle elderly, bedridden, difficult-vein, paediatric and post-surgical patients that most collection services struggle with.

  1. 1

    Call or WhatsApp us

Tell us the test name, or just describe the symptom or send a photo of the doctor's prescription. We confirm the test, the fasting requirement and the price on the same call.

  2. 2

Nurse reaches you in 60–90 minutes

a registered nurse or trained phlebotomist arrives at your home with sterile, single-use vacutainers, a fresh needle opened in front of you, and proper cold-chain transport boxes.

  3. 3

Sample goes straight to the lab

Every sample we collect is transported under correct temperature and handling conditions and processed at our NABL-accredited partner laboratory in Bangalore.

  4. 4

    Report on WhatsApp and email

Most routine tests are reported in 8–10 hours. Specialised tests and cultures take longer — we tell you the exact turnaround before we collect, never after.

Frequently asked about the lipid profile test

How long should I fast before a lipid profile?

Nine to twelve hours. Plain water is fine and helps the draw. The fast matters most for triglycerides, which climb steeply after a fatty meal and can double a result. Skip alcohol for a full 24 hours beforehand — a single evening of drinking is enough to distort the triglyceride figure and trigger a needless repeat test.

Can a lipid profile be collected at home early in the morning?

Yes, and that's the sensible way to do it. We schedule fasting collections for early morning so you complete the overnight fast asleep in your own bed and eat breakfast the moment the nurse has drawn the sample. No travelling on an empty stomach, no waiting in a queue — which matters especially for elderly and diabetic patients.

What LDL level is considered dangerous?

Below 100 mg/dL is considered optimal for most adults, but the acceptable level genuinely depends on your overall risk. For someone who already has diabetes, established heart disease or a previous cardiac event, cardiologists often target 70 mg/dL or lower. A number that is fine for a healthy 30-year-old may be unacceptable for a diabetic 60-year-old — which is why the result must be read by your doctor against your full risk profile, not against a table.

Lipid profile test cost at home in Bangalore?

At the lowest price available in the market. Lipid profile is usually ordered along with fasting sugar, LFT and KFT — all of these are drawn from the same fasting sample in one visit, so there is no additional collection charge. Call +91 72178 72802.
