How long should I fast before a lipid profile?

Nine to twelve hours. Plain water is fine and helps the draw. The fast matters most for triglycerides, which climb steeply after a fatty meal and can double a result. Skip alcohol for a full 24 hours beforehand — a single evening of drinking is enough to distort the triglyceride figure and trigger a needless repeat test.

Can a lipid profile be collected at home early in the morning?

Yes, and that's the sensible way to do it.
