About the hormone & fertility test
Fertility and hormone testing is unusually sensitive to timing, and that is where most home collection services fall down. LH, FSH and oestradiol are typically drawn on day two or three of the menstrual cycle; progesterone is drawn about a week before the next period is due; prolactin should be taken in the morning, at rest, since stress and even a difficult blood draw can raise it. AMH is the exception — it can be taken on any day of the cycle. Our nurses know these rules and will schedule the visit for the right day rather than simply collecting whenever is convenient, because a hormone drawn on the wrong day produces a number your gynaecologist cannot use.
What the Fertility Hormones test measures
Who usually needs a Fertility Hormones test
- Couples trying to conceive without success
- Irregular, absent or very heavy periods
- Suspected PCOS — with acne, weight gain or excess hair growth
- Before starting IVF or IUI treatment
- Recurrent miscarriage evaluation
- Unexplained milk discharge from the breast
- Men with low libido or fertility concerns — testosterone testing
- Early menopause assessment
Preparation: no fasting needed
Fasting is generally not required, but cycle-day timing is critical. LH, FSH and oestradiol: day 2–3 of the period. Progesterone: about day 21. Prolactin: morning, rested, and ideally not immediately after exertion or stress. AMH: any day.

Fertility Hormones normal range — indicative values
What a typical adult reference range looks like for this test.
| Parameter | Indicative adult range |
|---|---|
| Prolactin (women, non-pregnant) | 4 – 23 ng/mL |
| FSH (day 2–3) | 3 – 10 mIU/mL |
| LH (day 2–3) | 2 – 10 mIU/mL |

| Testosterone (men, total) | 300 – 1,000 ng/dL |
